Enoch Walked With God
"ENOCH"‹A man, compassed with infirmities, liable to sin, weak and helpless in himself, just as you and I, yet he walked with God. And what was done by one human being can be done by another. Do you believe it, and for yourself? Will you walk with God? Rom. 15:4.
"WALKED"‹One step at a time, little by little, over rough places and smooth. Progress may have been slow; the way was long; and often brought weariness, heartache, and trial. But patiently, perserveringly, continuously he walked. What was possible for Enoch is possible for you. Heb. 6:12; Luke 9:62; Jas. 1:4.
"I can do ALL things through CHRIST which strengtheneth me." Phil. 4:13.
"WITH"‹He was not laggard to fall behind through unwillingness, disobedience, folly, and unbelief. He did not run ahead through impatience, headiness, and rashness. "With" tells of a surrendered will, a trusting heart, and an understanding of God's ways and voice. Will you walk thus? Rom. 6:13.
"Can two walk TOGETHER except they be agreed?" Amos 3:3.
"WITH GOD"‹Not with the mass of people. He ceased from sin, but it brought opposition, misunderstanding, loneliness. Yet there came also joy, comfort, satisfaction, strength, success. Enoch could speak with God, and tell Him of his joys, sorrows, needs, troubles, desires, friends, and foes. God could speak with Enoch and tell him of Himself, His mighty acts, His wondrous ways. They journeyed thus together, and, in the eyes of those who knew, Enoch was so small and God so great that beholders thought little of Enoch, and much of God. Enoch became more and more like God. Luke 24:13-32. "Not I, but Christ." Gal. 2:20.
The rest, Enoch had with him an Almighty One to act the part of a Savior, Friend, Counselor, Defender, Guide, and Helper. This One was equal to every emergency, and could manage every difficulty, whether in the business life or at home. He is "just the same today," and can fill the same places to you that He filled to Enoch. Heb. 13:8; Mk. 10:27; Psa. 27:1.
And the end: Continual association made it easy, natural to believe such an One. What was there about Him to doubt? Neither His character nor power, so when God offered to translate him, he could believingly say, "Yes." "He was not, for God took him," and made him thus a type of that blessed company, at the end of this age, who shall never die, but be "caught up" and have "mortality swallowed up of life." This may come this year (only God knows). If so, would YOU be one of them? ‹P. R. Nu~ent
