Meet Wayne Murphey

Wayne Murphey's life has always centered around the publishing and preaching of the Gospel. He was born on Jan. 3, 1956, to Willie and Frances Murphey. Frances was the daughter of the late Fred Pruitt, founder of Faith Publishing House. Wayne's father, Willie, was a preacher whose ministry was based in Guthrie but extended to many other places.
In the mid 1960's, Willie Murphey began a radio broadcast called "The Mission Trail" which expanded to several radio stations. He also printed a newsletter by the same name which included the radio message and letters from listeners and readers. This radio broadcast and publication continued until his death in 1985. Wayne spent many hours as a boy helping type and process these newsletters.
Much free time was also spent around the offices of Faith Publishing House which His grandfather, Fred Pruitt operated. Wayne was only seven years old when his grandfather passed away.
After graduating from high school, Wayne went to work at a local newspaper office where he was in charge of the press room and make-up departments.
On Nov. 29, 1975, he married Mary Sprague, a young woman who grew up in southern Illinois but had come to Guthrie with her mother to work at Faith Publishing House. God blessed this marriage with two children, Jason Wayne in 1977, and Patina Marie in 1981.
In 1976 Wayne quit his job with the local newspaper and went to work full time at Faith Publishing House as a press operator.
At age 21, he felt a call into the ministry. He and Mary spent many Sundays traveling with their children to congregations who were without a pastor to bring them the Word of God.
This ministry has also taken Wayne into such countries as Jamaica, Mexico and the Philippines.
Since 1990, Wayne has overseen and directed the day to day operation of Faith Publishing House. His duties include writing, editing, corresponding with readers of the Faith and Victory, and meeting publication and business deadlines. His days are very full.
Other activities in which Wayne is involved include membership in Toastmasters International, an educational organization which teaches communication and leadership skills-skills which Wayne feels enhance his opportunities for ministry.
Recognizing the ills of our society, and reaching out to make a difference, Wayne is also currently involved in becoming a court appointed special advocate. His volunteer work in this capacity will equip him to serve as an officer of the court with responsibilities to investigate and monitor child custody cases.
If you were to ask Wayne to describe what motivates him in all these activities, he would say, "The Holy Spirit and the desire to share the love of God and the message of Jesus Christ with others."
