The Educational Art Institute is an enjoyable yet intensive, learning experience for porcelain and glass artists. It is designed for all levels and experience. The purpose of The Institute is to improve skills and techniques while increasing our knowledge of the basic art principles of drawing, design and composition, balance, color theory, value, intensity and texture.This approach will provide students an opportunity to experience multiple new ideas.

Now it is time to look ahead and make plans to attend the 2012 WOCP Art Institute. In this issue of the China Painter you will find your registration form. You will notice that you will, for the first time, be able to sign up for your 2-day workshop in advance. These classes will be held on Monday and Tuesday. One day workshops will be on Wednesday and Thursday and will be selected by the same lottery system as we have done in the past.

When you fill out the registration form, select a first, second and third choice of teacher and subject. You MUST choose 3 different teachers. Class size will be limited to 10 students. Teacher selection will be based on the postmark of your envelope. A $100 deposit MUST accompany your registration. Registrations will be accepted BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 2011

The teachers and their 2 day workshop subjects are as follows

Paula White, Oklahoma City, OK, Monday and Tuesday Paula will be teaching water color techniques. Many of our porcelain artists are adept in other mediums and water color parallels with porcelain painting.

Dianne DesOrmeaux, Lafayette, LA, has exciting and innovative techniqes. She will feature a combination of painting, pen work., liquid bright gold and lusters.

Stella Shilling, Houston, TX ‚ For the first time at the Art Institute, glass painting will be offered. Stella is very experienced with glass painting as well as porcelain painting and brings her expertise of design, color and composition to you. Her 2-day class will be teaching reverse painting with roses on a glass plate. The 1-day workshops will include scrolls and pen work on a wine or champagne glass with satin etching and reverse painting of baby roses and pen work on a glass coaster, paper weight or flat candle holder. Do not miss this opportunity to learn fired glass painting.

Barbara Jensen, Birmingham, MI ‚ This is Barbara‚first time at the Art Institute. She is well known all over the United States for her design work with raised paste and gold, floral compositions, enamel work, scrolling and cartouches. Her 2-day class will feature working with gold and enamel on small porcelain pieces such as a 3" box, etc. The 1 day classes will include scrolling on a plate and small Dresden roses on a box or small plate.

Joan Frandle, Blue Earth, MN ‚ Joan was immensely popular at the last Art Institute and she is returning to teach gems and pearls on a 5 " round box for her 2-day workshop. Joan has been teaching for a number of years and is much diversified with her talents. For her 1 day classes she will be teaching how to paint a plaid ribbon on a 5x7 oval box and for our animal lovers, she will be teaching painting a horse on an 8x10 tile. She has won many awards for her horse paintings.

Cindy Warren, Eufala, OK ‚ Cindy joins the Art Institute staff for the first time. Cindy will be sharing her knowledge and expertise on the subjects she in famous for. Her 2-day workshop features a fruit composition on an 8x10 tile. Her 1 day classes include grapes on a 6x12 tile and a floral painting on a rectangular tile or 10"round tile. Her work is spectacular and her teaching schedule books years in advance. Do not miss this chance.

Sharon (Snook) Scholz, Colorado Springs, CO ‚ Sharon has been teaching and traveling for a number of years and is also very diversified with her painting talents. Her 2-day workshop is an underwater scene with turtles which may also incorporate some luster and bright gold work. This is a dynamic design and lots of fun. It will be painted on a flat sided vase or an 8x10 tile. Being skilled in many areas, her 1 day classes will include a squirrel on a plate or tile and roses on a plate or tile.

Mary Ashcroft Seehagen, Caro, MI and Sandy, UT ‚ Mary was with the Art Institute teaching staff in 2008 and is returning by popular demand. She will be sharing her many teaching talents by starting with an English cottage scene on a chocolate box or tile for her 2-day workshop. Her one day classes will include gold scrolling and chickadees, both on a plate or tile. Her teaching skills are in high demand and we are happy to have her with us.

Cookie Barton, Ashland, OR ‚ Cookie is the only teacher who will have two 2-day workshops. The first workshop is the one you may pre sign up for. Cookie will be teaching portraiture of a woman featuring techniques for painting flawless skin. This will also give you the opportunity to learn the development of the eyes, nose and mouth features. Cookies other 2 day class will be a lottery sign up on Tuesday evening with the other teachers‚ classes. It will be painting 2 small boxes with black matt and embellishing them with either flowers or butterflies.

Also added for additional 1 day workshops when the lottery sign up occurs is:

Pat Gurley, Ada, OK ‚ Pat will offer painting orchids on an 8x10 tile and a mother and baby panda on a 10" round tile.

Kirsten Bradley, Fairhope, AL ‚ Kirsten will teach designing your own vase and finishing it with pen work and painting a seascape on an 8x10 tile.

As you can see, you have been offered marvelous teachers from across the United States who are all very experienced, qualified and talented. You also have a wide range of subject matter to choose from and I am confident that no matter whom you take a class with, you will learn and have a good time. Be sure you make 3 DIFFERENT teacher selections on your registration form.

 

The Art Institute package includes 5 nights stay at the hotel, breakfast Monday through Friday breakfast, Monday through Thursday lunch, Wednesday night BINGO BONANZA, Monday thru Thursday evening hotel managers reception with beverages and snacks AND 4 FABULOUS days of painting! We will have a kiln master to fire your porcelain every night ‚ nothing wet to take home.

 

Remember, class size will be limited to ten (10) students so don't delay sending in your registration and deposit of $100 STARTING October,1, 2011.
